I picked this book up on a whim because I didn't have anything at home that I wanted to read. Last night, I didn't touch any book, instead watching a little TV and then hitting the sack. But this morning, since I didn't have to work until noon, I decided to start reading Dragon Slippers. Man, am I glad that picked it up yesterday.
I love books that deal with dragons. It was one of the reasons that I looked Dragon Slippers up. (Dragon Spear had been nominated for a Cybil award, but I hadn't read any of the previous volumes, so there I was, picking up Dragon Slippers.)
Creel, the main character in Dragon Slippers, is a poor farmer girl who dreams of moving to the King's City and opening up her own dress shop. But her hair-brained aunt comes up with a plan to sacrifice Creel to the village's dragon so that she can be rescued by a prince. Only, Creel finds that the dragon is an intelligent creature who likes to collect shoes. Creel does not want to be rescued by a prince, because that might mean the dragon will be harmed, so she uses her words and finagles a plan to get her out of the village and prevent any harm from happening to the dragon. Creel than begins her journey to the King's City, and along the way almost comes to harm. But aid comes to her in an unexpected form- another dragon. This dragon is Shardas and an unlikely friendship develops between Shardas and Creel. When Creel eventually reaches the King's City, she finds herself involved in new friendships and new challenges, but when a war threatens to break out, it is Creel who becomes an integral part of stopping a war and saving her friends.
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the other two volumes, Dragon Flight and Dragon Spear, about Creel, Luka, and Shardas.

Great review :)
Great summary & analysis! I was going to write my own post about it, but I think I'll just link to yours.
